With over 20 years of experience in California, Shant J. Apekian has been involved in all facets of California policy and government affairs. He has developed a keen understanding of how to navigate California’s complex political dynamics to advance successful outcomes on very difficult issues.

Throughout his career, Shant has developed extensive knowledge of the legislative process and his strong bipartisan relationships with legislators, staff and administration prove to be invaluable to clients. 

Apekian Advocacy represents a variety of clients, including several Fortune 500 companies, trade associations and not for profits. His experience spans a wide range of issues including energy, transportation, housing, healthcare, and entertainment.

Shant has a long history of working with major trade associations, including the California Apartment Association (CAA) and the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA).  At WSPA,  Shant led the Association’s advocacy and political efforts, working on all major legislative and regulatory energy policies involving climate change, renewable energy, transition and labor issues. At CAA, he helped lead the organization's legislative and political programs for over a decade. There he represented a variety of clients, including several national real estate investment trusts, developers and landlords.

Shant began his career as legislative staff to various state legislators and worked on numerous political campaigns. He holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s in public administration from the University of Southern California.
